Here's a complete guide to discovering Paris with your family. Here you'll find all the visits and activities we tried out during our many weekends in Paris with the kids.
Of course, it's hard to see everything in Paris in just a short stay. In as little as 3 days, you can easily change neighbourhoods and get into the atmosphere of the Butte Montmartre, the Latin Quarter or the Marais, the most remarkable arrondissements of the French capital. Living in the provinces, we often go there for 2, 3 or 4 days to admire and explore the City of Light. Below is a list of all the attractions and museums, and how long you should allow for them.

What to see in Paris with your family: the must-see monuments
It's impossible to visit Paris with your children without passing these iconic Parisian monuments. There's no need to visit them all, these remarkable buildings are enough to fill us with wonder. Children will be delighted to rediscover the images they've seen in books about Paris. Admire the sights simply by spending some time there, on a free visit, and share some cheap family time in Paris.
The Eiffel Tower and the Trocadero
The inevitable Iron Lady of Paris will make your little ones want to climb it. If you want to take the lift, book your tickets well in advance so that you have a precise date and time. If you're in less of a hurry and have a smaller budget, don't hesitate to climb to the 2nd floor on foot - our 4 year old did it without a hitch!

Champs Elysées and Arc de Triomphe
Even if this isn't my favourite area, far too commercial for me, it's impossible not to take a stroll along its famous boulevards. Start at the Arc de Triomphe (which you can climb up - tickets here) and walk down the avenue to take the kids to the Palais de la Découvertes (see below). It's even more beautiful in winter with all the Christmas lights and decorations!
Length of visit: 1 hour for a stroll
Notre Dame Cathedral and the Ile de la Cité
A magnificent work of medieval art that is the envy of the world! Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to visit the cathedral after it burnt down. But you can still go and admire it from the forecourt, and look for the point zero of the roads of France!
Don't hesitate to wander around the Ile de la Cité district and look for its flower market!
Notre Dame is due to reopen in 2024.

Montmartre and its Sacré Coeur
A district where you need to spend some time.
Take photos in front of the Sacré Coeur, visit the narrow streets of this pretty ‘village’ and its Place du Tertre, where all the artists are on hand to take your portrait, discover its vineyards and its Moulin de la Galette, an unusual sight in Paris...
Length of visit: 2 to 3 hours for a stroll.
Buren's columns and the Palais Royal
The columns of Buren, a beautiful work located in the courtyard of the Palais Royal, will delight your children! You're guaranteed a hide-and-seek session. You can also admire the Palais Royal, built by Richelieu in the days of the Musketeers!
To be combined with the Musée en herbe (see below) during your visit to Paris.

Georges Pompidou Centre
I'm putting it in the list of monuments because I've never visited the inside. The outside is well worth a visit for its quirky, avant-garde architecture. The museum inside houses temporary exhibitions that change regularly, so there's sure to be one that your children will love.
Just next door, the Stravinsky fountain and its colourful statues by Nicky de St Phal will amuse children. This square is often the venue for street performances.

Le Panthéon
The Tuileries and Place de la Concorde
Don't miss the famous Place de la Concorde obelisk, which is the twin brother of the Karnak temple in htt.
You'll pass it on a 2-3 hour walk along the Seine to the Parc des Tuilleries, just before the Louvre.
Length of visit: 2 to 3 hours for the walk
The Garnier Opera House
A legendary Parisian façade, a building that houses the beautiful gilded opera house and, right next door, the famous macaroons to be enjoyed on the steps of the Palais Garnier. To discover the interior, buy a ticket for a self-guided or guided tour. An escape game is also available to motivate teenagers!

Which Paris museum is best for children?
Here's a list of the must-see museums in Paris for families. Prices go up quickly for a family. Don't hesitate to buy ticket packs or the Paris city card to reduce your budget.
The Cité des Sciences and La Villette
Set aside 1/2 day for the children's section of the Cité des Sciences. If you want to stay in this area, plan a full day: have a picnic by the canal and then go and see a film in the incredible boule de la Villette.

The Palais de la Découverte
I recommend the Palais de la Découverte from the age of 8, so that they can enjoy it more. But Mini Voyageur was 4 when we visited and he still remembers the temporary exhibition on ants. Some of the sections are very challenging and are best discovered with teenagers!

The Louvre Museum
It's a gigantic museum, so don't expect to visit everything in one go, especially with children. There are 2 options: visit a section that is particularly suitable for children (e.g. Egypt, with its special treasure hunt) or take a short guided tour of the main works.

Le musée en herbe
A superb museum for exploring an artistic subject in greater depth. With a guide who explains and leads the workshop. We were there for an exhibition on Tintin. Ask about the current exhibition.

Paris parks and gardens for the whole family
During holidays with children, the gardens of Paris are automatically on the programme, to rest the legs of the whole family. Each has its own very different atmosphere; some offer free play areas, others charge.
In addition to the parks, some of the quays along the Seine are perfect for letting the kids loose between 2 museum visits. Those near Notre Dame de Paris cathedral extend into the gardens of this sanctuary. They even become a beach in summer!

Un grand parc, avec un mini zoo, et le musée d'Histoire Naturel. Un jeu de piste est également possible ici.

Le Jardin d'acclimatation
Un chouette parc pour s'amuser comme des fous: des manèges, un spectacle de marionnettes, de quoi y faire un chouette pique-nique.

Le parc des Buttes Chaumont
Un joli parc avec un joli belvédère avec une vue sublime sur Montmartre.

Le Jardin des Tuileries
Un bel endroit pour prendre un gouter et se reposer avant de continuer vers le Louvre et sa pyramide. Nous avons aussi un jeu de piste pour enfant pour en apprendre plus sur ce lieu en s'amusant!

Le Canal St Martin
Ici pas de parc, mais un endroit bien bucolique dans Paris pour se reposer un peu de la frénésie de la capitale! En le suivant vous pourrez rejoindre la Villette!

Itinéraires Paris en famille quartier par quartier et par jour
Voici quelques idées d'itinéraires et programme pour visiter Paris en famille; ce ne sont que des idées, programme assez soutenu, fatiguera peut-être les petits
Jour 1 à Paris en famille: Tour Eiffel et musée du Quay Branly puis direction le parc de la villette pour la cité des Sciences
Jour 2: Champs Elysée - Arc de Triomphe - Palais de la découverte - métro pour Opéra Garnier pour rejoindre Montmartre
Jour 3: Musée du Louvre, pique nique jardins des Tuileries - Place de la Concorde - batobus vers Notre Dame et l'île de la Cité
Jour 4: Quartier du marais et traversée vers les jardins des plantes et /ou du Luxembourg
Jour 5: Jardin d'acclimatation ou Disneyland

Quand visiter Paris avec les enfants
Notre séjour le plus agréable fût sans aucun doute, celui du mois d'août: très peu de monde dans la ville . Ce fut très simple d'y circuler avec notre propre voiture. Le temps magnifique et le Paris Plage avaient conquis les enfants (Voir notre article plus bas).
En février, faire de long trajet à pied pour rejoindre les différents monuments parisiens permet de se réchauffer.
Noël est idéal si vous souhaitez voir les décorations de Noël dans les grands magasins et sur les monuments. Mais il y aura beaucoup de monde.
Comment se déplacer dans Paris avec des enfants
Découvrir Paris en Métro
Le métro est votre ami! De plus, pour les provinciaux, le métro rime avec aventures souterraines : ne pas se perdre dans les couloirs, ne pas se tromper de stations etc... C'est une véritable expérience parisienne!
Paris en bateau
Un autre bon moyen de visiter Paris en famille et plus insolite est de naviguer sur la Seine: en Batobus (pass 24h très avantageux) ou en Bateaux Mouches avec commentaire. C'est le moyen le plus simple de rejoindre la Tour Eiffel et l'île de la cité ou se trouve Notre Dame
A pied sur les Quais de Seine
Depuis quelques années, plusieurs quais ont été piétonnisé, c'est idéal pour rejoindre les lieux emblématique de Paris.

A chaque séjour à Paris avec les enfants, nous testons de nouveaux hébergements. Souvent, notre budget dicte notre choix de logements. Nous avons séjournée aux:
Camping de Paris, proche du bois de Boulogne
Océania Hotel: un très chouette hotel pour un séjour en aout
Adagio Appart Hotel, pas très loin de porte de Versailles

Bien sûr, la location d'appartement entre particulier est bien pratique (à réserver ici). Et si vous vous y prenez tôt, l'échange de maison est recommandé pour un séjour bien moins cher!

Comment se rendre à Paris
Privilégiez en famille, le train ou la voiture bien moins polluants que l'avion!
En train: réservez vos billets assez tôt pour profiter de tarifs plus avantageux. Arrivée à la Gare de Lyon depuis Lyon ou Marseille en 3 h environ
